All eyes are on L.A.’s most iconic artist, John Baldessari. While his work is currently being featured in over five shows in the greater Los Angeles area (two notable exhibits are the stellar prints he collaborated on with Gemini G.E.L., and the Sediments show at Margo Leavin), the crown jewel is his Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s new comprehensive retrospective of the California artist’s work, Pure Beauty. The show features more than 150 pieces spanning the artist’s career from 1962 to the present day, and includes works on canvas, photography, videos, and artist’s books. John Baldessari is a legit hometown hero, so trust—we can’t recommend this enough.
Of course if you can’t make it to L.A.C.M.A. in the near future, but you love John Baldessari and interactive artwork, then there’s an app for that! Released in conjunction with the Pure Beauty show, John Baldessari has collaborated with L.A.’s ForYourArt and Ovation on the first-ever app created by a contemporary artist, available for iPhones and iPads. The program allows you to interact with his famous piece, In Still Life 2001-2010, and make your own pieces of artwork. It’s as fun as it is beautiful, and each piece is totally unique. Says Baldessari, “When someone creates their own In Still Life 2001-2010, it becomes their own artwork. It’s not mine. It’s theirs.”
