Architectural shoes by Balenciaga…
The latest collection by Balenciaga features footwear that takes an architectural approach, mixing block heels with a collage of materials. The collection was designed by Pierre Hardy to match the high-tech materials of Nicolas Ghesquiere’s clothing designs. The shoes are made from a range of materials that include leather, wood, plastic, metal and a few newer high tech materials. The designs feature classic forms like the loafer and brogue, reinvented with the square heels made from collaged bits of plastic that are reminiscent of Memphis Design. Other designs even have slip-in style front that take a design cue from water ski bindings.

In Memoriam: Bjork’s poem to Alexander McQueen (R.I.P.)
dear lee
i can´t stop thinking how both fierce and feeble you are
it is difficult to grasp this
my condolences go out to your family and friends and all your team
who must be all trying to fathom this
i would like to thank you for all your inspiration
it was so important to me to get to work with you and your team
a real mashup of fertile minds
it was vital to my development
i’m grateful
and all the warmth all around you and your mom
björk
and her team

Ryan McGinley shoots Tilda Swinton in Pringle of Scotland’s new campaign
I love this.
“Shot during the making of the Pringle S/S 2010 Advertising campaign, the Tilda Swinton film by Ryan McGinley follows the new face of Pringle since last summer modelling the luxury brand’s womenswear.
Breathlessly travlling through the wildlife of Scotland, a dark forest framed by a bleak sky and rustling meadows, the Scottish filmmaker and photographer McGinley shoots a quiet and moving short film, highlighting Scottish heritage moving between the open moors to the dark caves and cobbled ruins surrounding the ethereal beauty of the androgynous Academy Award winning actress Swinton. McGinley artistic direction portrays Pringle’s loyalty to its Scottish roots as a brand and quirky creativity in its new collection on the most fitting of subjects.
The short film explores iconic elements of the Scottish terrain whilst delivering beautiful images of the clothes themselves on the captivating and bewitching actress.”

This makes me livid. Not only is this process wasteful and irresponsible, but a clear example of a corporation in disorganization. I had higher hopes for H&M, and especially Walmart who has been a leader in sustainability.
“The New York Times is having a hard time these days, and the mainstream media are taking a lot of hits. But you have to admit, there is still a lot of power in those presses. Just yesterday Jim Dwyer wrote A Clothing Clearance Where More Than Just the Prices Have Been Slashed, about how graduate student Cynthia Magnus discovered that piles of clothes from Wal-Mart and H&M were being destroyed and thrown out.”
